History and Beliefs

Our Defining Vision...

Molded in our Creator's image, redeemed by Jesus' sacrificial love and endowed with a variety of spiritual gifts, we seek to glorify God by: (1) Maturing in faith, (2) Inviting others to experience the blessing of salvation and (3) Witnessing to Christ's presence in our lives through selfless and grace-filled service to humanity.

Though comparatively small, we offer a broad range of opportunities for active involvement to children, youth and adults alike. Our size fosters a relaxed, congenial, fun-loving, Christ-centered atmosphere that frees us to enjoy each other and to intentionally nourish and apply our faith.

We are affiliated with the Presbyterian Church (USA), a denomination with a sense of ministry and mission defined by ''Great Ends'' that order our life together:

  • The Proclamation of the Gospel for the salvation of humankind,
  • The shelter, nurture and spiritual fellowship of the children of God,
  • The maintenance of divine worship,
  • The preservation of the truth,
  • The promotion of social righteousness.

Our Beliefs

We are further characterized by the ''Reformed'' heritage that shapes our core beliefs and values. We acknowledge:

  • The mystery of the Trinity (Father, Son and Holy Spirit),
  • The incantation of the eternal Word of God in Jesus Christ,
  • Justification by grace through faith,
  • Scripture as the final authority for salvation and for the life of faith,
  • God's sovereignty
  • God's selection of people for salvation and service,
  • The covenant nature of the church, ordered according to God's Word,
  • The stewardship of God's creation,
  • The devastating influence of idolatry that worships aspects of creation rather than the Creator,
  • The necessity of obedience to the Word of God that directs us to work for justice in the transformation of society.

Our Life Together

Worship is our central focus:

At 10:55 AM every Sunday morning, we worship according to ''Reformed'' tradition - glorifying God for his steadfast love and bountiful grace, confessing our sins, joyfully acknowledging the forgiveness God offers through Jesus Christ, proclaiming God's Word to children, youth and adults, lifting up expressed joys and concerns in prayer and rededicating ourselves to serve as committed disciples.

We have choirs for children and adults that present anthems to praise God in song. Vocal and instrumental selections enhance our worship during June, July and August.

We observe the sacraments of Baptism and the Lord's Supper. Baptism is administered by request to infants and children of our members and to adolescents and adults who have never been baptized and express a desire to receive this sacrament as part of a personal profession of faith. The Lord's Supper is observed the first Sunday of the month and at other significant times in the life of the church. All those who confess that Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior are invited to partake. Children may participate once they have acquired a basic understanding of this sacred feast.

A nursery is available for parents' convenience and peace of mind. Children through age 4 may receive nursery care. Older preschool children may be placed in the nursery if space allows. We encourage older children to participate in worship along with their parents.

Spiritual Nurture is a primary emphasis:

We believe that Christian discipleship obliges us to be lifelong students, committed to discerning all the wisdom and insight God seeks to impart. As the disciples sat at Jesus' feet, learning the lessons He taught, we study God's Word in an effort to increase our understanding of what the Lord reveals to us through His Son. We nurture disciples of all ages through:

  • Sunday School Classes for Children and Youth,
  • Three Adult Sunday School Classes,
  • Adult Bible Study,
  • Short Courses Offered Periodically by Our Pastor,
  • Activities for Elementary Children and Middle School/Senior High Youth,
  • Presbyterian Women's Bible Study,
  • Presbyterian Men's Prayer Breakfast/Devotion

Mission Outreach is an expression of our willingness to be channels through which God's love and compassion flow out into the world:

We give of our time, talents and financial resources in response to human need and in a concerted effort to proclaim that the Kingdom of God is at hand. While many of our members are involved in personal outreach ministries of their own as an extension of their commitment to the church, we work cooperatively to support local, national, and international mission initiatives:

  • Denison Ministerial Alliance,
  • Denison Great Days of Service,
  • Denison Fall Festival,
  • Helping Hands,
  • Grayson County Shelter,
  • Denison SNAP Center,
  • Presbyterian Camp on Lake Texoma,
  • Golden Rule and Terrell Elementary Schools,
  • Habitat for Humanity,
  • MHMR,
  • Presbyterian Children's Homes,
  • Kinder Kraft Preschool,
  • One Great Hour of Sharing Offering,
  • Peacemaking Offering,
  • Alternative Christmas Market,
  • Christmas Joy Offering,

  • Presbyterian Women's Thank Offering,
  • Presbyterian Women's Birthday Offering,
  • Mission Support of the Presbyterian Church (USA) through Grace Presbytery, the Synod of the Sun and the General Assembly,

Fellowship is what makes us a family:
